Draft of July Charter to be sent to political parties by tomorrow: Ali Riaz

Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Ali Riaz, said that the draft of the July Charter has been prepared. It will be sent to all political parties by tomorrow, Monday. If the parties give their opinions quickly, it will be incorporated.

Ali Riaz said these things in his opening speech on the 19th day of the second phase of the Consensus Commission’s discussions with political parties at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital today, Sunday.

Discussions are underway today on the principles of state governance, principles related to the expansion of fundamental rights of citizens, and proposals related to the formation of a police commission. Stating that the draft of the charter will not be discussed in the dialogue, Ali Riaz said, “If there are major fundamental objections, then we will bring them up for discussion, otherwise we will not bring them up. If you give your opinions, the initial charter will have a role-background and a place for commitment.”

Ali Riaz said that a day will be allocated in the ongoing discussions for signing the national charter. He said, the ongoing discussions of the Consensus Commission will be completed by July 31. We have reached consensus on 10 issues. Consensus is still pending on seven issues. Discussions on three more issues have not been held yet.

30 political parties including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), Islami Andolan, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Mass Movement have participated in today’s discussions. Safar Raj Hossain, Emdadul Haque, Badiul Alam Majumder, Iftekharuzzaman, Ayub Mia and others are present in the discussion moderated by Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor.
