No one could hold back their tears after Raisa’s body reached the village.
Raisa Moni (9), a child who died in the warplane crash at Milestone School and College in the capital’s Uttara, was bid farewell with tears from the villagers. She was buried at the Bajra Shamsul Ulum Madrasa and Orphanage Cemetery after a funeral service at the Eidgah Maidan in Bajra Dakshin Para, Gopalpur Union, Alfadanga Upazila, Faridpur on Friday morning.

Raisa is the daughter of Shahabul Sheikh and Rabeya Khatun of Bajra village in Alfadanga. Raisa’s father Shahabul Sheikh lives with his family in a rented house in Nayanagar, Uttara. Raisa is the eldest of three siblings. She was a third-grade student at Milestone School and College in Uttara. Her elder sister Cynthia (14) is in eighth grade at the same school. Her brother Rafsan (4) is the youngest. Raisa Moni had been missing since the warplane crash at Milestone School. She had not been found since the accident. Later, her father Shahabul Sheikh (44) claimed that she was Raisa after seeing a part of the child’s face at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital. Dhaka Medical College Hospital collected DNA on Tuesday afternoon. Raisa’s body was identified in the DNA report and handed over to the family on Thursday night.
This morning, when Raisa’s body reached Bajra village in Gopalpur union of Alfadanga upazila of Faridpur, mourning began in the area. Relatives and villagers had been wailing at the house of the deceased Raisa since morning. The villagers were outraged by the sudden death. No one could hold back their tears after Raisa’s body reached the village. Later, she was buried after the funeral. Alfadanga Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Russell Iqbal, members of the army and locals were present at the funeral.
Raisa’s uncle Imdadul Sheikh said, “Raisa was brought to her village home early this morning. The funeral was held at 9:15 am and the body was buried in the local graveyard.’
Obaidur Rahman, a former member of Ward No. 1 of the local Gopalpur UP, said that the people of the entire area are shocked by the untimely death of Raisa Monir. After her body reached the house, a heartbreaking scene was created. There is no such person, he did not cry. The villagers have never seen such a death before.
