It’s going to be one year of the government, today’s arrears calculation is very important: Hossain Zillur Rahman

The current interim government is about to complete one year. Hossain Zillur Rahman, executive chairman of the private research organization Power and Participation Research Center (PPRC), believes that it is time to speak strongly about the government’s activities in the past one year.

It’s going to be one year of the government, today’s arrears calculation is very important: Hossain Zillur Rahman

Zillur Rahman said, “There have been many things, sweet words, good words, good initiatives, etc. We have also seen many promising things. In my view, today’s framing should be, the reckoning of debts and the roadmap for transition. Today, the reckoning of debts is very important. What has happened in a year in these issues – justice, reform, elections – that reckoning of debts should be the main topic today.”

Hossain Zillur Rahman said these things at a roundtable meeting organized at the Prothom Alo office in the capital’s Karwan Bazar on Wednesday afternoon. The roundtable titled ‘July Mass Uprising: One Year of Experience and Future’ is organized by Prothom Alo. At the beginning of the roundtable meeting, condolences were expressed for the casualties in the warplane crash at the Milestone School and College building in Uttara in the capital. Everyone stood in silence for a minute.

At the roundtable meeting, Hossain Zillur Rahman said, “If we talk about what needs to be done, people have been left out of the equation, people have withdrawn themselves; now they are spectators, not participants in such a huge change—the main task must be how to bring these people back from spectators to the level of active participants. One means of that is certainly elections. But we have to think in many other ways. In addition, we have to shout about the collapse in capacity. If necessary, we have to bid farewell to it. Those who are in charge must listen to this. They must listen, this collapse of capacity must be reversed. People cannot be taken out of the equation. We cannot put our talent and attention on paper and leave national unity behind.”
