Satmatha residents Rajimuzzaman Hridoy, Prant Hossain, Md. Nayeem, Shakib Hossain, Mohammad Hasan, Hossain, Saikat Islam and Tanbir Islam among others spoke at the program. Madrasa student Rahul Islam conducted the Gayebana janaza. Local residents complained that about four kilometers of the road from Ship Company intersection to Satmatha has been unusable for a year. Thousands of people from Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Pirgachha and Kaunia and surrounding areas travel on this road every day. But they are suffering immensely due to the pothole-filled road. Minor and major accidents are frequent. They allege that despite the road being in such condition for a long time, the Rangpur City Corporation has not taken any effective initiative.
After the funeral, the protesters took out a protest procession with a symbolic body in front of them. During this time, they called City Corporation Administrator Shahidul Islam and Chief Executive Officer Umme Fatima ‘incompetent’ and raised various slogans against them.
Rangpur City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Umme Fatima told Prothom Alo that a proposal has been sent to the ministry to renovate the road through a project. In addition, initiatives are being taken to repair the damaged parts on an urgent basis.
