The BSF arrested three people named Sohag Mia (23), Masuk Rahman (20) and Sipar Ahmed (22), residents of the local Haripur area, from the border last Thursday night. Relatives say that the BSF arrested the three on suspicion of smuggling while fishing in the river. The Manu River divides the border between the two countries at that border. The Indian state of Tripura is on the other side of the border. A BGB press release said that around 2 am on Thursday, a group of 20 Bangladeshi smugglers entered 200 yards inside India through the main pillar number 1,859 of the border. They were receiving stolen goods there. At one stage, a patrol team from the local Tilabazar camp of the 199th Battalion of the BSF conducted a raid there and arrested three people. Later, the people were handed over to the police of the local Irani police station. A case has been filed by the BSF in this regard.

Lieutenant Colonel ASM Zakaria, commander of the 46th Battalion of the BGB, said that the family members did not inform them about the arrest of the three Bangladeshis by the BSF. After receiving information from various sources, the matter was confirmed by contacting the commandant of the 199th Battalion of the BSF.
