The main phase of the ‘National Rally’ of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has begun at around 2 pm today at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital. A large number of leaders and activists have joined it.

The main phase of the rally began at around 2 pm with the recitation of the Holy Quran and Naat-e-Rasul. Naat-e-Rasul was performed by artists from the Saimum Shilpi Gosthi. Later, the family members of the martyrs of the July Uprising present at the rally were introduced.

Then, Atiqur Rahman, a member of the Jamaat’s central shura and general secretary of the Workers’ Welfare Federation, spoke. The party’s Ameer Shafiqur Rahman is presiding over the rally. Central leaders will address the rally.

Earlier, the first phase of the rally began at 10 am with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Then, Hamd-Naat and Islamic music were performed. A large presence of Jamaat leaders and activists was seen at Suhrawardy Udyan. The party leaders and activists joined the rally in groups from different parts of the capital since morning. Public transport has been limited in Dhaka since morning due to the rally. The party leaders and activists are present on various roads in the capital. This has caused severe traffic jams. Buses have been stopped from the Shahbagh area. Only private cars, motorcycles, rickshaws and ambulances are plying.

On the spot, from 10 am to 12 noon, it was seen that some were wearing T-shirts with the Jamaat logo. Some had party white ribbons tied on their heads. Some had party symbol scales. They were heading towards the Suhrawardy Udyan rally site with party slogans in the procession. Along with the traffic police, Jamaat volunteers are controlling traffic at every intersection. At the same time, members of the law enforcement agencies are on alert on various roads.

The main stage of the Jamaat national rally has been set up on the east side of Suhrawardy Udyan. Unable to enter the main rally ground due to the crowd, many sat on various roads in Shahbagh intersection, Ramna Park, and Dhaka University area. They are watching the rally on digital screens installed in Shahbagh and Dhaka University areas.

Jamaat-e-Islami held a press conference on Thursday and said that they have invited leaders of various political parties including BNP, NCP, and Islamic Movement to the rally. They will also speak.
