Burial and cremation without autopsy is unacceptable: CPB
The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has expressed its anger over the burial and last rites of four people killed in Gopalganj without an autopsy. The party leaders said that no one expected such incidents of shooting and killing people during this government, but it has happened. Even irregularities such as burying and cremating the deceased without an autopsy are being reported, which is unacceptable in any way. Such incidents are not only a gross violation of law and order, but also a serious deterioration in democratic values and human rights.
Burial and cremation without autopsy is unacceptable: CPB
CPB leaders said these words at a rally organized to pay tribute to Shaheed Mahmudul Hasan Rizvi, a member of the Uttara Thana Committee of Bangladesh Chhatra Union, who was killed in police firing in Uttara in the capital during the July coup. They paid tribute to Shaheed Rizvi by placing flowers on a temporary altar built in front of the central office in Purana Paltan in the capital on Friday. At the rally, the leaders demanded a fair investigation into the Gopalganj incident, exemplary punishment of the culprits and ensuring the right of citizens to assemble. CPB President Md. Shah Alam, General Secretary Ruhin Hossain (Prince), Chhatra Union General Secretary Bahauddin Shuvo and other central leaders addressed the rally. CPB Dhaka Metropolitan North leader and former Chhatra Union president Hasan Hafizur Rahman Sohel conducted the rally.
The leaders said at the rally that the July-August 2024 mass uprising was not a sudden event. It was the continuous result of the anti-dictatorship and anti-authoritarian struggle for more than a decade. The main desire of this uprising was to establish democracy and build a society without discrimination.
The leaders also said that the countrymen are seeing that those known as the government party are being helped to hold rallies under the guard of the army’s armored forces and police forces, while on the other hand, government trains are being rented to bring people to the public meetings of political parties. Mob terrorism is going on. The reign of fear is emerging in new forms. The people of the country did not hold a mass uprising to see this situation.
The CPB leaders also said that among the many political scandals, incidents such as the illegal construction of the Rakhine Corridor, leasing the Chittagong port to foreigners, allowing other countries to set up arms factories, secret and unequal trade agreements with the United States, and allowing the UN to set up a Human Rights Commission office in Bangladesh without the consent of the people are taking place; which will give the country more opportunities to expand the dominance of the imperialist hegemonic powers.
Noting that a year has passed since the mass uprising, a specific time for the national parliamentary elections through direct vote of the people has not been found yet, the CPB leaders said that although there has been talk of eliminating discrimination, there has been no discussion on these issues. Proper treatment and rehabilitation of the injured in 2024 could not be ensured.
The leaders said that most of the participants and casualties in the mass movement are working people. But the lives of the common people have become miserable today. The minimum wage for workers has not been announced. Job losses are happening in various places. The farmers and farm laborers of the village have continued to produce even though they are not getting profitable prices for their crops. However, the government has not taken any initiative to reduce production costs, help the helpless people in the recent waterlogging, and build seedbeds.
The leaders said that the irresponsible behavior and speech of many parties are tarnishing the entire political environment and culture. These parties must withdraw from this situation. Otherwise, they will have to take responsibility for the incidents that have arisen as a result. The government must act responsibly in this regard in a non-partisan manner.
