Mir Magha is a symbol of inspiration for the young generation

Khulna University has observed the first martyrdom anniversary of Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mughd, who was martyred in the July Uprising. On this occasion, a memorial service was held at the university’s Journalist Liaquat Ali Auditorium on Friday afternoon.

Mughd was a 19th batch student of the Mathematics discipline of Khulna University. After graduating in March last year, he left Khulna for Dhaka. On July 18 of that year, he was shot dead in the capital during the anti-discrimination student movement.

The chief guest at the meeting was the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Md. Rezaul Karim. Among others, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Md. Harunor Rashid Khan and Treasurer, Professor Md. Nurunnabi spoke. Director of Student Affairs, Professor Md. Nazmus Sadat presided over the meeting. The welcome address was delivered by the Head of the Mathematics Discipline, Professor Md. Ajmal Huda.

The speakers at the meeting said that Mir Mughd’s sacrifice in the July Movement will be forever remembered in the history of the country. He is a symbol of inspiration for today’s young generation. Various initiatives have already been implemented at Khulna University to preserve his memory. There are plans to implement some more initiatives in the future. From now on, July 18 will be celebrated as ‘Martyr Mir Mughdab Day’ at Khulna University, which has already been approved by the syndicate.

The speakers said that the dignity of those who were martyred in the July Uprising must be protected and the murderers must be brought to justice as soon as possible. At the same time, the accomplices of the murderers must be brought to justice.

Mir Mughdab’s friend Md. Zakirul Islam, and Abdullah Shafil, a student injured in the July Movement, reminisced at the event. Khulna University students Minhajul Abedin, Al Shahriar, Ayman Ahad, Syed Md. Rumman, active activists of the July Movement, presented the background of the uprising and their experiences.
