A photo of Inspector (Investigation) of Naria Police Station in Shariatpur Suruj Uddin Ahmed going to the house of a BNP leader and garlanding him with flowers has spread on social media Facebook. Discussion and criticism have started on the matter.
Inspector Suruj Uddin Ahmed went to the house of Naria Upazila BNP Vice President Masudur Rahman on Sunday. The picture of him garlanding him went viral on Facebook on Monday.
In this regard, Suruj Uddin Ahmed told Prothom Alo, “I went to the house of that BNP leader for a case-related matter. I was fixing his necklace there. Someone might have taken a picture in that situation.”
Suruj Uddin Ahmed was previously temporarily suspended on June 15, 2023, while working at Padma Bridge South Police Station in Shariatpur. At that time, he was accused of picking up and beating Abu Jafar alias Thandu Chokder, a businessman from Naodoba Bazar in Shariatpur, to take a check worth Tk 72 lakh and beating and injuring four accused in a robbery case. His suspension order was revoked after the Awami League government fell last year. Suruj Uddin Ahmed was transferred to Naria Police Station on March 25, 2025. He was recently seen celebrating his birthday at a restaurant with an Awami League leader and UP chairman.
According to Naria Police Station and local sources, Masudur Rahman alias Ripon Peda, a resident of Shuvagram area of Ward No. 2 of Naria Municipality, is a German expatriate. Masudur Rahman returned to the country on July 7. After that, party leaders, activists and supporters from various levels went to his house to wish him well. Inspector (Investigation) Suruj Uddin Ahmed went to the house of Upazila BNP Vice President Masudur Rahman on Sunday night. Then, in his living room, officer Suruj Uddin put a garland of flowers around BNP leader Masudur Rahman.
The picture of the garland being placed around the neck went viral on Facebook yesterday. Many people commented on it. A person named Faruk Alam posted the picture and wrote, ‘One quality of Masudur Rahman is that he does not go to the police station, the OC of the police station, Investigation Sir, comes to him to exchange greetings. It is a heartwarming moment. Best wishes to you, uncle.’
