Income Tax Intelligence Unit uncovers tax evasion of Tk 1,874 crore
The Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has uncovered tax evasion worth around Tk 1,900 crore in the last 7 months since its establishment. The NBR unit was established in December last year to conduct intelligence activities and investigations related to income tax.
Income Tax Intelligence Unit uncovers tax evasion of Tk 1,874 crore
A press release sent by the NBR on Monday said that the agency has uncovered revenue evasion worth Tk 1,874 crore in the last 7 months based on intelligence activities. 63 individuals and organizations have already recovered Tk 117 crore 43 lakh through 231 A-challans and deposited it in the state treasury.
The press release also said that bank accounts of more than a hundred individuals and organizations have been frozen so far after receiving specific information about tax evasion.
The press release said that the journey of the Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit in the revenue sector of Bangladesh is an important step from moral, technical and legal aspects. The success achieved so far proves that the activities of this unit will not only help in revenue recovery but will also play an effective role in increasing taxpayer compliance and developing tax culture.
In addition to the Income Tax, there are separate units in the VAT and Customs Departments for conducting intelligence activities and uncovering tax evasion. Apart from this, there is also a separate independent unit called the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) in the NBR.
