What is NCP going to do at the Central Shaheed Minar on August 3?
During the July Uprising, on August 3 last year, a large number of people gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital to demand the overthrow of the government and the elimination of fascism. The anniversary of that day is going to be next month. The National Citizens Party (NCP) is planning to hold a big gathering at the Central Shaheed Minar on this historic day.
What is NCP going to do at the Central Shaheed Minar on August 3?
On the occasion of the anniversary of the July Uprising, the NCP is now holding a ‘July Padayatra’ in each district. The frontline leaders of the mass uprising in the NCP are touring the country. A large number of people are gathering at the road meetings and rallies of the padayatra program. The march will continue until July 30. After that, a rally will be held at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on August 3.
There is curiosity in the political arena about what exactly will happen at the rally that the NCP is talking about holding at the Central Shaheed Minar. Because, before the march began on June 29, NCP convener Md. Nahid Islam had announced at a press conference at the party’s temporary central office in Bangla Motor, Dhaka, that they would read the July declaration and manifesto on behalf of the students and the public at the central Shaheed Minar on August 3.
After this announcement, Nahid Islam said in an exclusive interview given to Prothom Alo that despite promising it in two phases (January and June of this year), the government could not give the July declaration. It was not clarified why it could not. Now they are not expecting it from the government anymore. The NCP will give the declaration with those who participated in the mass uprising, those who will come. This will happen by August 5.
In addition, during the ongoing July march, Nahid Islam said at a rally in Magura last Thursday that they want to see the July declaration and charter by August 3. They will be at the Shaheed Minar on August 3. In the meantime, if the government fails to publish the July Declaration, they will join the movement again, along with students and the public from all over the country.
