Desk Report,
What attracts people to visit Kandy?
It is not that the answer to the title question is unknown. Kandy’s history-tradition, mountains, dark green nature, various types of birds, pleasant weather-if you try to list the attractions of visiting here, it will be very long. Rather, it should be said the opposite, why shouldn’t people come to visit Kandy!
What attracts people to visit Kandy?
I have seen how much interest there is around a ‘Temple of the Tooth’ when I came to cover the Asia Cup in 2023. Not only Buddhists, but all tourists of all religions from different countries of the world visit this ancient temple on the banks of Kandy Lake at least once, where Buddhists believe that the tooth relic of Gautama Buddha is kept. However, the opportunity to see that rare object comes once every five years.
In 1988, UNESCO recognized Kandy, the former capital of Sri Lanka, as a World Heritage Site, mainly due to the historical and religious importance of the ‘Temple of the Tooth’ located in the Old Royal Palace Complex.

Still, I thought, let’s ask a couple of people who have come to visit Kandy, why they chose this city to visit? Let’s hear from their mouths, where are their places of interest.
What luck! After deciding the question at night, this morning I went out on the street to find the answer, and I found a pigeon right at the door of the house! A beautiful couple is standing on the opposite side of the lake, taking pictures in various poses, with the Queens Hotel behind them. The previous night, I saw a young TikTok group shooting in front of this hotel. My address in Kandy is the historic Queens Hotel ‘Temple of the Tooth’, just opposite. Once Malabar Street, now D. S. Senanayake Vidhyaya (road). One of the oldest three-star hotels in Sri Lanka has retained its 160-year-old history. The architecture and interior of the British colonial-style Queens Hotel building still has an old scent. Items from that time are arranged here and there, and fragments of historical photographs are hung on the old plaster walls.
