Extortion continues as before, only the extortionist has changed: Hasnat

Desk report

Hasnat Abdullah, the central convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said that the problem of encroachment and extortion in the country remains the same, but only their identity has changed. He alleged that the activities of encroachments and extortionists continue across the country.

He said these things at a view-exchange meeting and winter clothes distribution program organized by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at the Upazila Parishad Hallroom in Debidwar, Comilla on Saturday. Addressing the scholars, Hasnat Abdullah said, “You should speak against encroachment, corruption and extortion in your mosque sermons. This is your religious and moral responsibility.” He also said that now a circle is spreading that the Hindu community is being attacked in Bangladesh. The Imams and scholars should speak out on this issue properly and confront the international conspiracy being hatched against Bangladesh and Bangladeshis.

Hasnat Abdullah said that some people in the country are trying to incite communalism, but Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. Those who are minorities here are the safest. We are able to keep them even safer. Strict action will be taken against those who want to create conflict by inciting religious hatred.

Upazila Executive Officer Nigar Sultana presided over the meeting. Debidwar Islamia Fazil Madrasa Principal Maulana Alauddin, Field Supervisor of Islamic Foundation Tofazzal Hossain, Adviser of Anti-Discrimination Student-People’s Movement Nazmul Hasan Nahid, Coordinator Muhtadir Zarif Sikta and Md. Siam Ahmed spoke as special guests at the event.

After that, Hasnat Abdullah held a meeting with the representatives of the student movement of 15 unions and one municipality of the upazila. In this meeting, he also discussed corruption in various union councils, irregularities in the education and health sectors, construction and renovation of roads, bridges and culverts and gave directions on urgent matters.
