The story of life on the metro-journey of love

Anurag Basu is a story of different kinds of love. In 2007, in ‘Life in a…Metro’, he told the story of love, bonding, separation and the small emotions of life in a different way. After 18 years, he returned with a new chapter of the same story in the movie ‘Metro in Dino’. The type of love has changed with time, the lifestyle has changed; but the tension of the heart, the tension of marriage, the feeling of falling in love is still as alive. This is the power of Anurag Basu’s films – no matter how time changes, the language of love remains the same.

The story of life on the metro-journey of love

There are four couples at the center of the film. Their lives are different, their wants and needs are different, but they are tied together by one thread – love. Shivani (Neena Gupta) gave up her dreams long ago due to the pressure of the world. She accepted her husband Sanjeev’s (Shwashat Chatterjee) extramarital affair and continued the family life for the sake of children. A sudden encounter with Parimal (Anupam Kher) at a college reunion rekindles old love. Love here is not bound by age—it is a story of memory, indulgence, and lost emotions. Monty (Pankaj Tripathi) and Kajal (Konkan Sen Sharma) fell in love and got married. Now the family is boring and routine. Even talking to each other has become dull. Monty falls in love with a new woman on a dating app. Then the storm that breaks out in their marriage is the important ingredient of the story. Akash (Ali Fazal) wants to be a singer, but reality gets in the way of his dreams. Shruti (Fatima Sana Sheikh) wants to be a mother, Akash doesn’t want to. Their love story is one of passion on one hand, and a conflict between dreams and reality on the other. Partha (Aditya Roy Kapur) is a travel blogger, bound by nature. Chumki (Sara Ali Khan) is the exact opposite—a socialite, who wants a stable life. Their sudden meeting, then the gradual change in their relationship—that is the main theme of Chumki-Parth’s story. Anurag has told the story in his own way about these characters.
