she has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the DNCC Covid-19 Dedicated Hospital run by the North City Corporation in Mohakhali.

On Friday afternoon, we met Arnab Mohammad, son of Amena Begum, in front of the ICU on the fifth floor of the hospital. Arnab said that the day after admission, his mother’s platelets dropped further to 18,000. He and his father Md. Salauddin have been in the hospital for four days to take care of their mother. They sleep on a mat on the balcony at night.

A girl named Jannatul (17) is admitted to the ICU. Family members were collecting blood for her. Jannatul’s mother Amena Begum told Prothom Alo that they live in Shekhertek in Mohammadpur in the capital. On June 10, she went to her in-laws’ house in Patuakhali Sadar Upazila with her daughter. On June 27, when her daughter developed a high fever, she took her to the district hospital the next day. Jannatul was diagnosed with dengue during the test. She said that there were many dengue patients in that hospital. On the advice of a doctor, she came to Dhaka and admitted her to the DNCC Covid-19 Dedicated Hospital on June 30. The girl was given a bag of blood. In Friday’s report, the platelet count dropped to 6,000, so the doctor said he would need to donate more blood.
