The regulatory body has directed banks to collect the fee at the previous rate.
No increase in duty on raw jute and jute products exports
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Textiles and Jute in April, the revenue on raw jute exports has been increased to seven taka per bale, which was two taka earlier. That is, this fee has been increased by about three and a half times. And the revenue against the export value of 100 taka of jute products has been increased five times from 10 paisa to 50 paisa.
The fee was previously fixed in July 1995. The latest notification issued on June 26 said, ‘The notification regarding the determination of the fee issued on April 7 has been cancelled. In addition, it has been decided to collect two taka as revenue for each bale of raw jute exports as before. In addition, it has been decided to collect a fee at the rate of 10 paisa per 100 taka of export value for jute products.’
Cash assistance in this sector was reduced from the first day of the just-ended 2024-25 fiscal year, i.e. from July 1 last year. At that time, the government reduced the cash subsidy on exports of diversified jute products from 15 percent to 10 percent. In addition, cash subsidy on jute products has been reduced from 7 percent to 5 percent and on jute yarn from 5 percent to 3 percent.
According to the existing export policy, raw jute is a conditional export product. Once, India was a major market for Bangladeshi jute products. But as the country imposed anti-dumping duties on Bangladeshi jute exports, jute yarn exports to the country have decreased to 1/5.
