BNP’s campaign to demand trial of former MP Zafar Alam
Leaders and activists of the Upazila BNP and its affiliated organizations have taken out a procession demanding the trial of former MP Zafar Alam from Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua) constituency. Shoes were also thrown at the effigy of Zafar Alam.

The procession began at 11:30 am today, Thursday, in Pekua Bazar. Upazila BNP, Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, Krishak Dal, Sramik Dal and Chhatra Dal participated in it. The procession ended at the Upazila BNP office in Chaumuhani.
Zafar Alam is the president of the Chakaria Awami League. He was brought to Pekua Police Station on a seven-day remand in three cases at around 10 am on Wednesday. Earlier, he was also taken to Chakaria Police Station on a 14-day remand. BNP announced its program last night after being brought to Pekua Police Station.
After the procession, leaders and activists of BNP and the party’s affiliated organizations held a rally in front of the BNP office. Upazila BNP President Bahadur Shah said, “We will not do anything that disrupts law and order. No one will obstruct the administration. Zafar Alam is involved in the murder. We demand his hanging.” Upazila BNP General Secretary Iqbal Hossain said, “In 2014, sweets were distributed in Cox’s Bazar district under the leadership of Zafar Alam after the news of Salahuddin Ahmed’s disappearance. Today, Salahuddin Ahmed is sitting in Dhaka and implementing every national program of Bangladesh. And those who distributed sweets and rejoiced are in jail today.” Upazila BNP Joint General Secretary Shahnewaz Azad, Organizing Secretary Moslem Uddin, Upazila Jubo Dal convener Kamran Jadid, Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal convener Ahsan Ullah, among others, also spoke at the gathering.
