Netanyahu’s son secretly buys flat in UK under different name

On Wednesday, Israeli business and economic media outlet Kalkalist reported that Avner bought the £52,500 ($680,000) Oxford apartment in October 2022. At the time, a budget proposal announced by then-British Prime Minister Liz Truss had caused the pound to plummet.

The media outlet reported that Avner paid 1.98 million shekels (Israeli currency) for the apartment. This is below the 2 million shekel threshold that must be reported to Israeli tax authorities when buying property abroad.

Kalkalist says that if the apartment had been purchased just 10 days before or after the announcement of the Liz Truss budget, its value would have exceeded 2 million shekels and would have been required to be reported to the Israeli tax authorities.

Citing information from the UK land registry, the newspaper said that the apartment was purchased under the name “Avi Avner Segal.” This is a legal pseudonym for Avner Netanyahu. He took the name from the surname of one of his paternal grandmothers.

The report also said that Avner did not have to take out a mortgage to buy the apartment.
