BNP meets with allies on election and new party formation

Desk report

The chief advisor said that in view of the initiative to form a new political party under the leadership of the anti-discrimination student movement organizers, BNP has once again started exchanging views with the political parties associated with the anti-fascist simultaneous movement. The concerned people say that through this, BNP is practically checking the attitude of the partners of the simultaneous movement. At the same time, it wants to send a message to the interim government that the political parties involved in the simultaneous movement are united. They want to complete the reforms as soon as possible and hold elections.

On the first day of Saturday, separate exchanges of views were held with the 12-party alliance, the Nationalist Like-minded Alliance and the Bangladesh Labor Party. The exchange of views took place at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan. It is learned that a series of meetings will also be held with other like-minded parties in the next two to three days.

It is learnt from the people concerned that the BNP Secretary General told the movement’s associate leaders that domestic and foreign conspiracies against the country have not stopped. The conspirators are trying to destabilize the country by any means. At such a time, as a responsible political party, everyone must be more strategic and have more patience. No division can be created in political statements. The government must be given a reasonable time to organize elections. There should be no hostility with the government; rather, the discussion table should be given priority.

After the exchange of views, Nazrul Islam Khan told the journalists present, “We have exchanged views on the existing political and economic situation of the country, various problems of the people, etc. In the context of this discussion, if a decision is made on what to do, I will inform you.”

The head of the party alliance, Jatiya Party (Jafar) Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, said, “We, who have been agitating for a long time, have not exhausted our need for unity. It will be felt more deeply in the coming days. We will soon announce a program with other political parties including BNP.” In the afternoon, views were exchanged with the 12-party alliance, then the Nationalist Like-minded Alliance, and finally the Labor Party. In this, the 12-party alliance was represented by Jatiya Party (Kazi Jafar) Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, Bikalpak Dhara’s Nurul Amin Bepari, Bangladesh LDP’s Shahadat Hossain Selim, Bangladesh Jatiya Party’s Syed Ehsanul Huda, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s Golam Mohiuddin Ikram, Kalyan Party’s Shamsuddin Parvez, Labor Party (part) Md. Faruk Rahman, Abdul Karim of the Islami Oikya Jote, Abul Kashem of the Bangladesh Islamic Party and Rashed Pradhan of the JAGPA were present. Top leaders of 11 parties of the Nationalist Like-Minded Alliance led by Fariduzzaman Farhad of the NPP were present. In addition, Bangladesh Labor Party leaders led by Mostafizur Rahman participated in the meeting with the BNP Liaison Committee.

Bangladesh LDP Chairman Shahadat Hossain Selim told Prothom Alo, “Through this exchange of views, the BNP movement is knowing the attitude of its allies. Externally, this means that we are united and all are waiting for the elections.”
