Court-related sources say that after a four-day remand, former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda was produced before the CMM Court in Dhaka around 12 noon today. Later, the investigation officer of the case, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Syed Sajedur Rahman, applied to record his confessional statement under Section 164.
The petition states that Nurul Huda admitted to the incident of filling the ballot boxes on the night of the election day of the National Assembly on December 30, 2018. He and other election commissioners acted against the constitution by depriving the people of their right to vote. In violation of the election code of conduct, the law enforcement agencies and those in charge of the polling stations filled the ballot boxes on the night of the election. And on the day of the election, the Awami League and its allied organizations counted the votes and declared the Awami League the winner. On the instructions of Nurul Huda, the country’s law enforcement agencies and other government officials prevented the BNP and Oikya Front candidates and supporters from entering the polling stations.
