May dictatorship never rise again: Chief Advisor
Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus inaugurated the July Uprising Resurgence Program on Tuesday. He said, “Keeping in mind the goal for which young students, the public, rickshaw pullers, and workers were martyred and injured, we will revive every day of the past year through these programs throughout the month of July-August. Through these programs, we will take a new oath to implement that goal. And we will do this every year so that tyranny cannot raise its head again.”

Muhammad Yunus inaugurated the month-long program at a program organized at the Principal Advisor’s office today to mark the anniversary of the July Uprising.
The Principal Advisor said, “Today is a glorious moment in history. A year ago, the movement that students started in this July month gave us a taste of freedom by creating an unprecedented mass uprising. July was an unmistakable call, an awakening of the people in the fight to restore democracy in the country. The essence of that movement was – to build a new Bangladesh by eliminating fascism, to return the state to the hands of the people.’
The dream of the July mass uprising was to build a new Bangladesh, commented the Chief Advisor. He said, ‘The program that we have taken to commemorate the July mass uprising is not just a matter of emotion, not a matter of expressing anger. We declared a great rebellion after 16 years through the uprising, and we were able to fulfill the immediate goal that the uprising had. But behind it was a great dream – to build a new state system, to build a new Bangladesh.’
Muhammad Yunus urged the countrymen to be vigilant so that tyranny never returns. He said, ‘We will celebrate this time every year so that we do not have to wait 16 years to hold this uprising again in the future. We will do this every year so that if any sign of tyranny is seen, we can immediately destroy it.’
For that, the Chief Advisor mentioned that it is very important to observe the July Uprising Resurgence Program. He said, ‘So that we can catch tyranny before it shows its first leaf. So that we do not have to wait 16 years.’
In his speech, the Chief Advisor remembered with deep respect everyone who participated in the July Uprising. He said, ‘I remember with deep respect, all those young men and women, men and women, children and the elderly, farmers, workers, teachers, rickshaw pullers—who took to the streets and held the flag of democracy high; they became symbols of courage, sacrifice and determination.’
