Approval of OHCHR’s mission branch in Bangladesh is a blow to national interest: Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis
The Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis has termed the approval of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to set up a mission branch in Bangladesh as interference in the country’s internal affairs, a direct blow against national interests and Islamic values. The party has called on the government to withdraw this decision.

In a joint statement on Monday, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Muhammad Mamunul Haque and Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed said this.
The statement said that this move by the UN and its approval by the government are a matter of deep concern and apprehension for the country’s sovereignty, political identity and religious identity. Such a ‘human rights office’ will pave the way for unwanted interference in the country’s religious, cultural and political life.
The statement claimed that in the past, UN human rights offices have been used as tools to implement Western political agendas on Muslim countries.
Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis believes that the attempt to impose pressure on Islamic Sharia, family law, social norms and the education system in the name of human rights is part of an international conspiracy. The establishment of a permanent office in Bangladesh is tantamount to institutionalizing that conspiracy. At a time when the possibility of a healthy political settlement is emerging in the country through the fall of the fascist regime, a new field of intervention in the country’s internal affairs is being created by opening a so-called ‘Human Rights Office’.
