Maharaja Suryakanta Acharya Chowdhury built the palace. Built in 1889 at a cost of 45 thousand taka, the building is known as the Iron House due to the use of iron. The building was named ‘Alexandra Castle’ after Alexandra, the wife of the then Indian Emperor Edward VII. Later, it was popularly known as Alexander Castle or the Iron House. This castle can be reached in just five minutes by foot from Shashilaj.
