A new political party called Bangladesh General Party (BGP) has applied to the Election Commission for registration. The party’s official office The party is shown on the fifth floor of Haque Villa in Jagannathpur area of Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur. However, no party office was found there on site.

On Tuesday morning, when I went to the fifth floor of Haque Villa, I saw piles of bricks and construction materials scattered all over the floor. There are two rooms without doors and windows, which also have piles of bricks and mud on the floor. There is no furniture, no party symbol or signboard. Residents around the building said that they have never noticed any political activities in that building or in the neighborhood. Many also said that they do not know about any party called ‘Bangladesh General Party’.
Monowar Hossain, a resident of Haque Villa and assistant professor at Nawabganj Technical College, told Prothom Alo, “I am not aware of any political party called Bangladesh General Party near my house or any activities they have.” The top post of the party is called ‘General Chairman’. The owner of Haque Villa, Rezaul Haque, holds that post. He is a lawyer by profession. He usually stays at the Dinajpur court during the day and returns to the area in the evening. On Tuesday morning, it was learned that Rezaul Haque lives with his family on the third floor of the building. He was not at home at the time. Habibur Rahman, a mason engaged in construction work on the third floor of the building, said that he has not seen any political meetings or activities on the fifth floor of the building in the last six months. I spoke to lawyer Rezaul Haque on the phone. He told Prothom Alo that the Bangladesh General Party (BGP) started its journey as a new political party in December 2024. This party has a committee of 51 members. Talash Mamun of Parbatipur Upazila of Dinajpur is the general secretary of the party.
