A military helicopter has crashed in the Ashanti region of the African country of Ghana. A total of eight people, including the country’s defense minister and environment minister, were killed in the incident. A government spokesman in Ghana said this.

The names of the defense minister who died in the helicopter crash are Edward Omani Boyama and Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, the minister of environment, science and technology. The Ghanaian defense force said that the trusted military Z9 helicopter had three crew members and five passengers. The helicopter went “off the radar”.
The military helicopter carrying the two ministers and passengers took off from the capital Accra yesterday morning. The destination was the city of Obuyasi, where they were going to an event to fight illegal mining.
The deceased also included Ghana’s Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the country’s ruling National Democratic Party. The helicopter’s crew consisted of Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Annala, Flying Officer Manin Tuyum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
However, authorities have not given any information about the cause of the helicopter crash.
