Seven people have been arrested in the Monirampur upazila of Jessore for robbing an agent of mobile financial services company Nagad of money by stopping a private car. The Detective Branch (DB) of the district police arrested them in a drive on Tuesday night. The stolen Tk 32 lakh 5 thousand 500 was recovered during this time.

The arrested persons are Yusuf Ali (31) of Post Office Para in Jessore town; Roni Gazi (26), Sujan Islam (33), Imadul Gazi (46) and Nasim Gazi (19) of Bakra Digdana village in Jhikargachha upazila; Sohel Rana (21) and Sagar Hossain (24) of Khoshalnagar village in the same upazila. Among them, Yusuf Ali is the driver of the private car carrying the money. During the arrest, 16 lakh 55 thousand 500 taka was recovered from Imadul Gazi and 15 lakh 50 thousand taka from Sujan Islam’s house. In addition, the bag carrying the money, the motorcycle used in the robbery, a chapati and a knife were seized. The notification said that at 9:45 am yesterday, while Nagad distributor Rabiul Islam was going to Monirampur in a private car, the car was stopped in the Jamtala area of the upazila. At that time, four people on two motorcycles took chapatis and vandalized the glass of the private car and threatened Nagad distributor Rabiul Islam. At one stage, they robbed him of 3.5 million taka and fled. Then Rabiul called the national emergency service number 999 and sought help. The police reached the spot and identified the people involved by reviewing the CCTV footage before and after the incident.
Mominul Islam, the administrative officer of Nagad’s agent company, filed a case with Monirampur Police Station last night in this incident.
