Nazirpur Police have arrested five leaders and activists of Awami League and Jubo League in Nazirpur, Pirojpur. They were arrested from their respective homes in a raid conducted on Saturday night.
Nazirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mahmud Al Farid Bhuiyan confirmed this information on Sunday (December 15) morning.
The arrested persons are: Habibur Rahman Sheikh (65), a resident of Uttar Hogla Bunia village in Shakharikathi union and organizing secretary of the Upazila Awami League, Abul Bashar Howlader (61), general secretary of Ward No. 4 Awami League of Sriramkathi union, Kamrul Gazi (42), vice-president of Ward No. 6 Awami League of Sheikhmatia union, Jahangir Alam Dakua (50), joint secretary of Ward No. 7 Awami League of Kalardowania union, Kamruzzaman Mintu (45), general secretary of Deulbari Dobra union Jubo League.
OC Mahmud Al Farid Bhuiyan said that the arrested people are accused of vandalizing the BNP office, explosives case and arson in houses. Their involvement has been found in the investigation of the past violence cases.
Nazirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmud Al Farid Bhuiyan confirmed the matter and further said that the accused have been arrested in Nazirpur Police Station in Nazirpur Upazila BNP office vandalizing, explosives case and house burning case. They were arrested from their respective homes in a drive conducted overnight on Saturday.
