4,000 Palestinians paralyzed, 2,000 with brain and spinal cord damage in Israeli aggression

Desk report

Nearly 100,000 people have been injured in the Israeli aggression in Gaza, which has been going on for more than a year. Of these, more than 4,000 have lost various limbs and more than 2,000 have suffered spinal and brain injuries. This information was revealed in a report by the Middle East Monitor, a London-based media outlet that works on the Middle East.

“Most of those who lost limbs in the Israeli aggression are children. More than 4,000 people have lost their arms or legs since the genocide began,” said Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza, at a conference organized at the Nasser Medical Complex in southern Gaza to mark the International Day of Disabled Persons.

“More than 2,000 people are now bedridden with spinal and brain injuries and are in need of urgent rehabilitation services,” said Mohammed Abu Salmiya, who added that thousands of people have lost their hearing and vision due to the incessant Israeli bombardment.

The director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex added, “Gaza’s health system has been completely destroyed; there are no medical services or facilities. The only rehabilitation hospital, Hamad Hospital, and the Gaza Prosthetics Center have been completely destroyed.”

The UNRWA report is consistent with a report released by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Sigrid Kaag, in September. Kaag noted that more than 22,000 people in Gaza have been injured in ways that will never return to normal. Of these, 13,000 to 17,000 Palestinians have suffered irreversible organ damage.

Israel has been waging a genocide in the Gaza Strip since October last year. More than 44,600 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli offensive in the territory. Most of the dead are women and children, and about 160,000 have been injured.

The Israeli massacre in Gaza, which has been going on for more than a year, has drawn international condemnation. Officials from various countries and organizations around the world have described the attacks and the blockade of aid as a deliberate attempt to wipe out a population.

Earlier, on November 21, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces genocide charges at the International Court of Justice for its devastating war in Gaza.
