Desk Report,
3 wickets in 1 over, Mustafiz-Soumya’s contrasting experiences and two matches in one day
Bangladesh and Pakistan first met in 20-over cricket in 2007 in the four-nation series in Kenya. Apart from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Kenya, Uganda was also in that tournament. However, Uganda’s matches do not have international recognition. In the fourth match of the tournament, Pakistan scored 191 for 7 at the Gymkhana Ground in Nairobi. Chasing runs, Bangladesh could also score 161 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Bangladesh opener Nazimuddin scored 81 runs in 50 balls with 5 sixes. That was the only T20I of Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan in 2008. Pakistan won the toss and batted and scored 203 runs for 5 wickets. When Bangladesh’s score was 98/7 after 15 overs in the chase, debutant leg-spinner Mansur Amjad took the first ball. He dismissed Mahmudullah, Mashrafe and Shahadat in the second, fifth and sixth balls of the over, dismissing Bangladesh for 101 runs. 3 wickets for 3 runs in 1 over, yet that match is the first and last T20I of Amjad’s international career.
3 wickets in 1 over, Mustafiz-Soumya’s contrasting experiences and two matches in one day
First win in Mustafiz-Soumya’s debut
After losing seven consecutive matches, Bangladesh won the only T20I of Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh in 2015. Shakib Al Hasan (0/17 in 4 overs) and Mustafizur Rahman (2/20 in 4 overs), who played his first match in T20, restricted Pakistan to 141 runs with great bowling. Sabbir Rahman’s unbeaten 51 runs in 32 balls gave Bangladesh the victory with 7 wickets and 22 balls in hand. In that match, another debutant Soumya Sarkar came out to open the innings but was run out before playing a ball. After 11 months, Bangladesh and Pakistan faced each other in T20I. Bangladesh was the winning team in that Asia Cup match in Mirpur. And the man of the match in that match was Soumya, who was out on debut without playing a ball. This time too, Bangladesh bowlers narrowly restricted Pakistan (129/7) on the Mirpur wicket. Bangladesh won with 5 balls and 5 wickets in hand, advancing to the final. Bangladesh opener Soumya was named man of the match after scoring 48 runs off 48 balls on the Mirpur O-T20I wicket.
