Serious damage to nuclear facility: Aragchi

The US and israil strikes have Serious damage caused “extensive and serious” damage to Iran’s nuclear facilities, Foreign Minister Serious damage Abbas Araghchi told state broadcaster Iran’s state-run news agency on Thursday evening. He also said the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) was working to assess the extent of the damage.

Serious damage to nuclear facility: Aragchi

Araghchi’s comments came hours after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the strikes had failed to disrupt Iran’s nuclear program. He was responding to claims by US President Donald Trump that three of Iran’s nuclear facilities had been “completely destroyed” as a result of the strikes.

But Khamenei said the US had “not achieved any significant success” in the strikes.

Khamenei has been in hiding since the start of the war with Israel on June 13. In a video message on Thursday, he insisted that Trump had “exaggerated” the impact of the strikes. He declared victory over the US and Israel.

But Foreign Minister Araghchi’s comments paint a very different picture. Araghchi said Iran has no plans to resume nuclear talks with the United States. Tehran canceled the sixth round of talks scheduled with the United States after Israel launched an attack.

“I want to make it clear that there has been no agreement, initiative or conversation to start new talks,” Araghchi said.

The Iranian foreign minister said the government was now reviewing the “interests of the Iranian people.” Iran’s diplomatic strategy was going to take a “new form.” However, he did not explain what he meant by this.

CNN reported that the Trump administration is considering several proposals to bring Iran back to the nuclear talks. These include helping Iran build a civilian nuclear power plant by providing about 351,000 crore taka, or $30 billion, in aid, easing sanctions and releasing a large amount of Iranian money that is stuck in various countries.
