The Darus Salam Police Station of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 12 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliates on Thursday while preparing for the Jhatika procession.

This information was given in a press release signed by DMP’s Media and Public Relations Department Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman. The arrested persons are Md. Al Amin (32), Md. Sohag Majhi (38), Md. Akkas Mia (52), Md. Nesar Mia (48), Md. Yusuf Ali (48), Md. Faruk Hossain (47), Md. Maqbul Mridha (54), Md. Manik Mia (38), Md. Shahin (50), Md. Naeem (25), Md. Emdadul Haque (37) and Md. Abdul Alim (22).

The press release said that at around 3:40 pm yesterday, leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated organizations were preparing for a quick procession at the Technical intersection of Darus Salam Police Station. Upon receiving the information, a police patrol team quickly went to the spot. With the help of local people, 12 people were immediately arrested. The others fled after sensing the presence of the police.
